WHAT DOES THE MEMBERSHIP COVER?

The joining fee is a once off as long as you do at least one dinner a year. The joining fee covers the consultation, registration and setup cost. We do want to get to know you just well enough to find suitable dinner club tables for you.

As a club member you are welcome to join dinner club tables and events for singles. We might also invite you to meet a member who has upgraded and where we increase the compatibility between the table mates.

The Dinner at Eight booking fees cover operating costs associated with arranging the dinner parties and events. At the restaurant, diners only for pay for what they eat and drink. Separate payments are pre-arranged for each diner.

WHY DO I NEED TO COME IN FOR A CONSULTATION?

Real people : Dinner at Eight is all about real people, real faces who are genuinely single and would like to meet likeminded single women and single men in a social setting.
How it works : Part of our consultation is of course to answer any of your questions and make you comfortable with how the dinner club operates.
Suitable tables : We also need to get to know you well enough to know which dinner table would be more suitable for you. Knowing your age is important and your hobbies, sports and interests. The ages you would like to meet, educational level, professional level, smoking/non smoking, children, location, lifestyle and even looks become important to know if you are interested in our gold program or Dinner for Two matchmaking.
Security ID check : Very importantly we do a quick photo ID check with everyone.
Genuinely single : When joining each member is legally telling us they are single and understand they can only join a dinner club table or event when single. Of course we hope that by meeting likeminded single women and men this changes.
Not online dating! : In this day and age where many online dating profiles are fake and even those that are not fake might not tell you the truth, our consultation process avoids all of this.

HOW DOES DINNER AT EIGHT MATCH PEOPLE FOR DINNERS?

Our dinners are matched on the basis of availability, age range, shared interests and common backgrounds. Our sophisticated database ensures that we monitor how often you have met members of the opposite gender, so we can ensure greater diversity on tables.

HOW MUCH ARE THE MEALS?

We select restaurants that are reliable, with attentive service and good value for money. Generally the price range for a main course is between $20-40. Based on this, a two course dinner with a drink should total between $50-$70.

WHERE ARE THE DINNERS HELD?

As we have members from all over Melbourne, we use restaurants in a circle around Melbourne. We do use restaurants in the inner north, east and south and bayside areas more frequently, with a good selection in areas such as Hawthorn, Prahran, South Melbourne, Port Melbourne, Richmond, Armadale and Carlton. Restaurants are chosen from a variety of ways, including the "Age Good Food Guide", Epicure, member recommendations, and locations. We personally visit each restaurant to ensure they're suitable for our clients. Restaurants are selected on the basis of value for money and quality of service.

WHEN ARE THE DINNERS?

Dinner at Eight holds dinners and events throughout the month, most often on Friday and Saturday evenings, with occasional the Thursday or Sunday, depending on availability. Of course with the name Dinner at Eight, the majority of our dinners are booked for 8pm.
When selecting a restaurant, we take into consideration the location of all dinner guests. Using this information, we select a restaurant that is closest to the middle point to ensure that guests are not travelling excessively far. Our restaurants are tried and tested and often updated, some of our favourites can be viewed here.

HOW ARE GROUPS PUT TOGETHER?

All dinner club members are interviewed so we get to meet you personally. Everyone must also provide personal ID to verify their identity. We put together our dinner parties based on age and interests recorded in your profile, using this information we try to structure a diverse group of dinner companions with complementary interests.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

As a general rule, "business casual" or “after five” will be acceptable wherever your dinner is located. We suggest you wear something appropriate and comfortable for a first date. If in doubt, see our blog for more advice on how to prepare for a first date. Look your best – first impressions do count!

WHAT HAPPENS IF I MEET SOMEONE AT THE DINNER THAT I WOULD LIKE TO MEET AGAIN?

Members typically exchange names and phone numbers after the dinner. If you miss an opportunity, simply contact us at Dinner at Eight and we'll contact your new friend. With your consent, we'll send them your preferred contact phone number or email address. Under all other circumstances, our members’ personal information is strictly confidential.
It is each members' sole responsibility to personally meet any individual and evaluate the member as to their suitability for any continued interaction. Although it is our hope to provide interesting and compatible people to meet, Dinner at Eight makes no representations or warranties regarding character and background of its members.

HOW CAN I JOIN?

CAN I JOIN WITH A FRIEND?

It is possible to sign up with a friend, however we generally do not seat friends together at a table to ensure that all participants interact with each other on common ground.

WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL A CONFIRMED DINNER RESERVATION?

It can be very disappointing to be at a table when one member cancels, as it can cause gender imbalance. If our office is notified in advance, we can usually fill empty seats with other compatible members. Since we want to provide the best possible experience for our members, we have implemented the policy below:
We require five (5) working days notice or you will lose your booking fee. If you are a no-show at the event and do not notify our office or restaurant of your absence, you will incur a $39 no-show fee in addition to loss of a dinner from your count of guaranteed dinners.

IS DINNER AT EIGHT A DATING SERVICE?

​No. Dinner at Eight's purpose is to introduce single professionals who enjoy good food, good conversation and a good time. As such, we consider ourselves a dinner club, not a dating service. We plan a full schedule of dinners two to six weeks in advance. Face-to-face dinner parties provide a stress-free way to meet new people in a fun and safe environment. WHAT AGES DO YOU ACCEPT?

In general we target singles ages 28-65+. Age is one of the most important factors when determining who to introduce you to.

WHY WASN'T I SELECTED OR INVITED TO JOIN THE EVENT ON SOME OF THE DATES THAT I AM AVAILABLE?

We run multiple dinners every weekend, but the dates you are available may not sync up with a table that is appropriate for you. When planning dinners we take into consideration our members' availability, age, gender and interests. We would prefer to place you on a table with people who fit these considerations, than to place you on a table simply because of your availability. By working in this way, we hope to achieve enjoyable dinners with relevant and stimulating conversation!

CAN I UPGRADE TO GOLD OR PLATINUM CARD MEMBERSHIP?

​Yes, you can upgrade at any time. Please call Dinner at Eight to arrange a suitable time for a consultation. Our upgraded services include Gold or Platinum to enhance your dinner club experience, if you are seeking more personalised matchmaking, we recommend the services of Dinner for Two. A bespoke program consisting of a combination of these services is also available.
